MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A former Department of Education official was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Tuesday for two acts of domestic sexual torture inside Upper East Side apartments.
Laurence Harvey, 47, was convicted at trial of committing two heinous acts — one in 2007 and another in 2010, a time when he allegedly bound the victim and used a screwdriver and hammer to torture her.
Harvey will serve 25 years behind bars plus eight years of parole on his aggravated sexual abuse, sex abuse and assault convictions, according to the sentenced handed down Tuesday by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Laura Ward.
Prosecutors thanked the woman for bravery in coming forward and for testifying.
"We hope that her courage will encourage more victims to report crimes of a sexual nature, including those that take place in the home,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a statement.
Harvey argued at trial that the woman's stories of sexual abuse were fabricated.
