Harvest in the Square Event to Unite Food and Fundraising

UNION SQUARE — More than 50 restaurants and 40 wineries will fill Union Square Park on Thursday night to serve up some of the district’s finest food and drinks — and it’s all for a good cause.

The 16th annual Harvest in the Square, presented by the Union Square Partnership, invites patrons to taste delicious and exotic dishes, often prepared using ingredients from the Union Square Greenmarket.

On Thursday, the menu will include piles of noodles from Asian eatery Republic, Tasmanian sea trout from BLT Fish, duck and fig ravioli from DUO Restaurant and Lounge, baked peach dumplings from Union Square Café, pumpkin whoopie pies from Gramercy Tavern, and a Texas-style, salt-and-pepper beef rib from Blue Smoke, among other mouth-watering options.

Proceeds from the event will help fund numerous park beautification initiatives.

“This fantastic celebration of the Union Square neighborhood is not only one of the city’s most anticipated culinary events, but absolutely essential in helping to ensure that Union Square Park remains one of New York’s most treasured public spaces,” said Lynne Brown and Carole Sobin, co-chairs of the Union Square Partnership, in a statement.

Over the past 15 years, Harvest in the Square has generated nearly $1.5 million. That money has been used to complete numerous park projects, including the restoration of the Union Square Pavilion, the planting of dozens of trees and thousands of shrubs and flowers, the establishment of a district-wide cleaning team and the addition of world-class art to the park.

“The proceeds from Harvest in the Square are vital in supporting the Union Square Partnership’s beautification work, amenities for the Greenmarket, maintenance, year-round programming and so much more,” said Jennifer Falk, executive director of the Union Square Partnership.

General admission tickets for the event cost $125, and VIP tickets, which come with extra perks and early entry, are $400.
