Sequins, Neon and Cinched Waists Emerge as Top Spring Trends

LINCOLN CENTER — A few days into New York Fashion Week, sequins, neon and hourglass silhouettes are surfacing as trends for Spring 2012.

"The designers are really pushing the limits this season," said fashion expert and stylist Dawn Del Russo, who has been a regular at Fashion Week shows for the past seven years and is a regular fashion commentator on TV.

Designers "are getting people to dress up a bit, be a bit more sophisticated. I am enjoying it because it is a little bit girly which I like," added Del Russo, whose own style included a Barcelona dress, Chanel sunglasses, MM Couture vest and purple Zanotti shoes.

Rebecca Taylor, BCBG MAX AZRIA and Luca Luca were pushing sequins and putty colors, while Jason Wu and Cynthia Rowley were embracing the feminine figure with cinched waists and long trains, according to Del Russo.

Bright neon pinks and yellows were another trend that was hard to miss.

"It is getting everyone to think outside of the box and incorporate it into our wardrobe," said Del Russo. The neons could be seen Cushnie et Ochs and Peter Som among others.

Raincoats were also a surprise addition to the Rebecca Taylor show. Models wore the synthetic jackets opened, occasionally with the hoods drawn and sleeve rolled up.
