Former International Monetary Fund boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn returned to France early Sunday morning, greeted by a massive media throng.
The embattled French pol smiled and waved as he stepped off an Air France flight at Charles de Gaulle Airport, according to the Associated Press.
Surrounded by guards, he was led into a black car as people shouted his name. Cheers erupted as he drove off, according to video of the homecoming.
Strauss-Kahn, who had been accused of sexually assaulting Nafissatou Diallo in the Midtown hotel where she worked in May, is not out of the woods yet.
He still faces a lawsuit from Diallo and has been accused of sexual assault by novelist Tristane Banon.
Charges against him were dropped on Aug. 23 after prosecutors questioned the credibilty of the accuser.
Strauss-Kahn left New York and the Tribeca townhouse he had been renting for $50,000-a-month on Saturday.
