BATTERY PARK CITY — After disappearing for months, a controversial swing tire at West Thames Park has been re-installed, to the delight of most park-goers.

The tire swing had been removed from the park in early June 2010, after at least two children were injured within days of it opening in late May of that year.

“I’m happy with the return of the tire swing. It’s more fun for the kids,” said the mother of a 3-year-old, who declined to give her name. "The tire is more secure and doesn’t swing that far out.”

Most parents said that the popularity of the swing outweighed any perceived dangers, and said they believed parents just needed to be watchful.

“Kids can fall and hurt get on anything," a neighborhood mother said. "You can’t control it. We just need to take precautions."
