FLATIRON — After opening an exhibit space in its Flatiron building retail store earlier this summer, cell-phone giant Sprint has launched a website to encourage more artists to vie for a showing inside the store.
Sprint, which is located in the triangular point of the famed Flatiron building, is calling its exhibit area the Flatiron Prow Art Space. The company is hoping to feature different artists from New York and across the country every 12 to 14 weeks.
With the creation of the new website, artists interested in the space can submit proposals online.
Sprint says it hopes to focus on work that plays on the general themes of eco-friendly living, technology and interaction.
The first artist to exhibit work in the Prow Art Space is Miles Neidinger, of Kansas City. His piece uses repurposed materials, like twist ties, neon drinking straws and yarn, that resemble multicolored foliage.
"Our first exhibit has generated a lot of positive attention from customers and the community," said Karen Paletta, Sprint regional vice president. "And it is going to be wonderful to see the art that is created reflecting eco-friendly living and technology."
