MANHATTAN — City agencies helped residents to beat the heat on Tuesday and Wednesday as temperatures hovered at or above 90 degrees.

The city's Office of Emergency Management and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said they would keep open cooling centers — public places and community centers with air conditioning — for people to escape the sweltering weather Wednesday.

The temperature in Central Park hit 90 degrees by 12:51 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The mercury reached a high of 93 degrees Tuesday, and is expected to stay sweltering for another day Wednesday, when temperatures head up to 88 degrees, according to Accuweather.
