MANHATTAN — Jed Lowrie's run-scoring triple in the seventh inning helped lead the Boston Red Sox to an 8-3 win over the Yankees to sweep the series.

The Red Sox (36-26) now take the top post over Yankees (33-27) in the American League.

Fans had to endure a three hours and 27 minute wait before seeing the Yanks get battered in the Bronx.

The Yanks had a promising start as Curtis Granderson hit his 18th home run of the season, off Josh Beckett, to give New York a 2-0 first-inning lead.

CC Sabathia was working on a shutout for the Yankees until the seventh inning, when Lowrie's triple and a double by Mike Cameron tied the game.

Jacoby Ellsbury, Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis followed with singles and David Ortiz added a two-run double. The seven runs were the most given up in an inning by the Yankees this season.

"It's very disappointing," Sabathia told the New York Post. "I take total blame."
