MANHATTAN — Heavy showers and thunderstorms greeted New Yorkers Tuesday morning.

Forecasters expected heavy downpours for most of Tuesday with temperatures staying in the low 50s.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for New York City in effect Tuesday and Wednesday with meteorologists predicting between three and four inches of rain to fall across the city.

Commutes across the city were a mess Tuesday morning, with the MTA reporting a subway train derailment on the B, D, Q lines out of Brooklyn. The train came off the rails at DeKalb Avenue.

Low visibility on the roads reportedly caused an accident on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel Tuesday, snarling outbound lanes.

The stormy weather disrupted flights at LaGuardia Airport Tuesday morning, with officials warning travelers to call ahead and check on their flights. Newark International and JFK airports were not reporting any delays.

The Port Authority reported that s Jet Blue flight was struck by lightning as it came into JFK, but managed to land safely.

The slow-moving storm system is expected to linger in the city all week. Manhattan might not see the sun again until the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
