MANHATTAN - The suspect in the horrific stabbing death of his girlfriend in their Lower East Side apartment was arraigned Thursday on murder charges.
Publicist Raul Barrera, 33, was indicted for killing his girlfriend, Sarah Coit, at their home on Clinton Street on April 10.
According to court documents, he allegedly told cops that after a fight, "something bad happened."
"Yeah, she is bad and that's why I'm here to turn myself in," he allegedly told an officer at the 9th Precinct stationhouse.
"We were fighting over a butcher knife...I hit her in the back. There's a lot of blood."
He said that afterwards, he dragged her to bed from the living room, changed his clothes and got in a cab to go to Penn Station, the documents said.
"I had white shoes on," he allegedly said. "There was a lot of blood."
Barrera faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted on the charge.
"The tragic events htat led to today's indictment demonstrate how quickly a domestic dispute can turn deadly," said DA Cyrus Vance.
