MANHATTAN — A staffer at the SNY network kicked the Mets when they were down Friday, running a mocking clip from "Family Guy" over the announcers after the team's opening day defeat.

The sound clip featured the show's maniacal baby character, Stewie Griffin, attending a Mets home-opening game. The announcer calls the game, "It's Opening Day, and here's the first pitch ... and the season's over," the paper reported.

Griffin comments that Halloween is a bigger letdown than being a Mets fan.

The unknown worker at SNY, which is owned by the Mets, played the clip from a Nov. 7 episode over Mets announcer Gary Cohen after the Marlins beat the Mets 6-2 Friday, the New York Post reported.

Executives with the cable channel were reportedly fuming over the gag.

"It was a very poor decision by an employee, the matter is being dealt with internally," a spokesperson with SNY told the Post.

The Mets bounced back to win their second match-up against the Marlins Saturday with a 6-4 victory.
