MANHATTAN — Former child star and fashion daredevil Ashley Olsen walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Opera Thursday night in a shawl that appeared to be made out of, well, carpet.
The fuzzy emerald item wrapped around the waif-like actress's upper body as she posed for photographers with her sister, Mary-Kate Olsen.
The event, opening night of Rossini's "Le Comte Ory," also drew "The Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies, Emmy-winner Claire Danes and "The Daily Show" (kind of) funny-girl Olivia Munn.
Weathered but lovable rockers Patti Smith and Lou Reed were also in attendance at the high-brow, Lincoln Center affair.
On Broadway, stars of stage and screen turned out for the slightly less serious premiere of "The Book of Mormon," a new musical from scatological humorists Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

Actors Paul Rudd, Alan Cumming, David Hyde Pierce, as well as actresses Edie Falco and Marcia Gay Harden, showed for the event, which took place at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on West 49th Street.
"The Social Network" writer Aaron Sorkin and "Arrested Development" director Ron Howard also turned out for the religion-themed farce, co-created by "Avenue Q" visionary Robert Lopez.
