MANHATTAN — Former Giants great Plaxico Burress will be released from prison this June, the state's Department of Correctional Services (DOCS) announced on Friday.
The wide receiver, who caught the winning touchdown pass for the G-men in the 2007 Super Bowl, was put behind bars in September 2009 after he accidently shot himself inside the Midtown nightclub Latin Quarter.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, which he is currently serving at the Oneida Correctional Facility in Rome, New York.
Pending good behavior, Burress will be released on June 6, 2011, DOCS said.
While the Giants have not said whether Burress will return to the team when he's let out of prison, the team's owner Steve Tisch raised fans' hopes last October when he met with Burress for a one-hour meeting at Oneida.
"We have not closed any doors on the opportunity to bring Plaxico back in," Tisch reportedly said before the meeting.
