MANHATTAN — Tennis star Serena Williams was brought to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday after suffering a pulmonary embolism, CBS News reported.
Doctors found the blood clot in Williams' lungs when she returned to Los Angeles after receiving treatment for a foot injury in New York, her spokeswoman, Nicole Chabot, said to People magazine.
The tennis champion's health deteriorated a day after she attended the Vanity Fair Oscar party over the weekend.
"Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars for a hematoma she suffered as a result for treatment for a more critical situation," Chabot said in a statement.
Williams has won 27 grand slam championships.
