MANHATTAN — Drenching rains and gusty winds were once again causing travel delays at area airports as Manhattanties struggled with waterlogged streets and sidewalks.

Wind gusts of more than 35 mph delayed flights at LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports, according to the Port Authority and Federal Aviation Administration's websites.

New Yorkers and their umbrellas were hammered with rain Monday as bands of heavy showers moved through the area throughout the day.

The wet weather, which included a chance of evening thunderstorms, prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for Manhattan in effect until late Monday night.

The National Weather Service warned as much as an inch of rain could fall and when combined with ground already soaked from Friday's rain, could cause flooding in low lying areas.

Along with the wet and windy weather, temperatures climbed into the upper 50s on Monday but would get colder as the rain moved out, according to AccuWeather.

The remainder of the week is expected to be clearer but cooler for Tuesday and Wednesday, and dropping to just 35 by Thursday, according to meteorologists.

The city experienced nearly the exact same forecast on Friday when rains and wind also caused travel problems.
