MANHATTAN — Future iron men and women worried about training in the concrete jungle need fret no more — this summer, Chelsea Piers is adding teen triathlon training to its slate of summer camps offerings.

The program is one of the many Chelsea Piers' summer camps that will be on display at an open house on Saturday afternoon at their west-side facilities.

Triathlon training for 12-17 year olds is the newest offering at the camps, scheduled to run this year between June 20 and Sept. 2. The addition builds on last year's introduction of preschool ice skating and gymnastics classes.

Camp Director Craig Woodcock added triathlons to the mix because the demanding blend of swimming, running and biking is booming in popularity nationwide as well as at the Hudson River sports complex, which was recently named one of the country's top training spots.

The high level of personalized attention involved in the triathlon camp, as well as Chelsea Piers' golf program, make these two choices the two priciest hot weather options, running over $1,000 per week.

But other camps, including bowling, hockey, "urban adventure" and soccer total a more affordable $400-$700. Preschool programs are in the $300+ range.

Aspiring sports stars will get nutritious lunches from Abigail Kirsch catering as well as daily bus pick-ups provided by Chelsea Piers at around 100 stops available in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Chelsea Piers' summer sports camp open house will operate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday inside the Sky Rink. A second open house is scheduled for April 9. Online registration is also available.
