Upper Manhattan Community to Celebrate Dominican and African American Heritage

UPPER MANHATTAN — Elected officials and residents plan to honor Dominican Heritage and African American History month at an event Friday evening.

The event to honor local leaders who have made a difference in Inwood and Washington Heights will be held at the Isabella Geriatric Center.

Music, food and dancing will accompany a short awards ceremony just two days before the 167th anniversary of the Dominican Republic’s independence from Haiti.

Honorees include Upper Manhattan residents Isaiah "Obie" Bing, Rolando Cespedes, Pamela Palanque-North, Yrthya Dinzey-Flores, Rev. Nathaniel Dixon, Yvonne Stennett, Dave Crenshaw, Altagracia Hiraldo, Sergio Lario, Joselinne Minaya, Jeanne Mulgrav, Kim Powell, Norman Seabrook and Seny Taveras.

Friday, Feb. 25, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Isabella Geriatric Center, 515 Audubon Avenue, corner of 192nd Street.
