MANHATTAN — New Yorkers got a taste of more mellow temperatures Monday but had to hang on to their hats as winds gusted to near 30 mph and were expected to strengthen as the day wore on, according to meteorologists.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday as winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph were expected to continue into the overnight hours.
The gusts could bring down tree branches and blow around garbage cans and other unsecured items, the NWS warned.
The wind was causing travel delays at LaGuardia and Newark airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration's website.
Monday's warmer temperatures wouldn't last long, the winds were ushering in a cold front that is expected to drop highs back down to near freezing on Tuesday making for a cold and blustery day, according to AccuWeather.
The cold isn't expected to last long, however, as temperatures will rebound into the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday and near 60 on Friday, forecasters said.
