MANHATTAN — A greater percentage of New York voters than ever before say they favor the legalization of gay marriage, a Quinnipiac University poll found.
The survey, released Thursday, reported that 56 percent of New York State voters support enacting legislation to allow same-sex couples to marry, compared to 37 percent who oppose.
The previous high, 51 percent in favor, 41 percent opposed, was reported June 23, 2009.
Interestingly, support for gay marriage legislation was higher among suburban voters than among New York City voters – with 61 and 55 percent voicing their support, respectively.
