MANHATTAN — Manhattanites traded frostbite for snow flurries on Tuesday, as Monday's deep freeze yielded to less frigid but snowier weather.

Temperatures were expected to climb to 38 degrees by Tuesday afternoon, according to AccuWeather.com, up from a frigid round of single-digit temperatures on Monday morning.

Alternate side parking was suspended Tuesday but metered parking was still in effect.

Tuesday's milder air was accompanied by snow, which fell in thick flakes throughout the morning and could amount to 1 to 3 inches, according to meteorologists.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement and cautioned motorists to drive carefully, as roads could be icy.

The snow was expected to stop by early afternoon just in time for a second round of snow to move in to the area Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Forecasters called for a mix of rain, snow and sleet on Wednesday with less than half an inch of accumulation as temperatures would once again top out in the high 30s.

The wintry mix should change over to all snow after 9 p.m. on Wednesday bringing another 3 to 5 inches overnight , according to meteorologists.

High temperatures were expected to stay above freezing all week but more snow was in the forecast for Saturday.
