UPPER EAST SIDE - As New Yorkers continue to gripe about the city’s response in cleaning up after the weekend’s massive snowstorm, drivers can perhaps take solace that Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended not only for Thursday, but also Friday and Saturday for the observance of New Year’s.

The city suspended alternate side rules and parking meter regulations on Thursday to help with snow removal, the Department of Transportation and DSNY announced.

Parked cars piled with mounds of snow still littered city streets on Wednesday, Sanitation workers and private contractors were seen on many corners with shovels in hand to clear paths for pedestrians and cars.

"We're making it so the sidewalks are accessible to handicapped people," said a sanitation worker while clearing a path.
