MANHATTAN — The Golden Globe Award nominees from shows and films made in New York received a special congratulations from Mayor Michael Bloomberg after nominations were announced Tuesday.

"New York City, the world's greatest backdrop, continues to grow as a stage for some of the world's best film and television," Bloomberg said in a statement.

The "Made in NY" television nominees included HBO's dramatic "Boardwalk Empire" TV Series star Steve Buschemi for Best Actor in a dramatic TV series, "30 Rock" comedians Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin for best comedic actress and actor, and Al Pacino, who is up for Best Actor in TV movie "You Don't Know Jack."

Film star nominees include Michael Douglas, who is up for Best Supporting Actor in "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," and Nicole Kidman, who is up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for the drama "Rabbit Hole."

Other nominees are Kelly Macdonald for Best Supporting Actress in "Boardwalk Empire," Edie Falco for Best Actress in a comedic TV Series for "Nurse Jackie," Julianna Margulies for Best Actress in a dramatic TV series and Chris Noth for Best Supporting Actor in a series, both for "The Good Wife."

The TV series and films were shot in locations throughout Manhattan, including 1 State Street Plaza, Broadway, and the Upper West Side, among many other locations.

Although it failed to get a shout-out from the mayor, the big-hit TV Series "Mad Men" was also nominated for best TV series. Though it mainly shoots in California, the show also lists New York as one of its prime filming locations.

Over 100,000 New Yorkers make their living working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, which now pumps $5 billion into New York's economy ever year, Bloomberg said.

Which is exactly why so many actors, actresses and film crews are attracted to the Big Apple to begin with, he added.

"When it comes to film and television production, given New York City's unparalleled setting and customer service, we have to ask: if you can make it here, why make it anywhere (else)?"
