MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — The former 9/11 memorial center worker who confessed to stealing thousands of dollars from the organization was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation on Monday.

Emmanuel Reyes, 26, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in September, admitting to having stolen $12,700 from the Tribute WTC Visitor Center, where he had worked at the register selling souvenirs and taking donations, prosecutors said.

"The defendant took advantage of his access to the Tribute Center’s cash register to steal money — donations intended for student education, volunteer programs, and the historical preservation of the Tribute Center," Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. said in the statement.

Jennifer Adams, CEO of the Tribute Center, which was founded by the September 11th Families Association to teach people about the events of 9/11, expressed satisfaction with Monday’s sentencing.

"We are saddened by this incident," she said, "however, agree that justice has been served."
