MANHATTAN — The first day of December roared into Manhattan Wednesday with close to an inch of rain, dangerously high wind gusts and unseasonably warm temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the city on Wednesday, with wind gusts expected to get as strong as 50 miles per hour.

The heavy winds wreaked havoc across the city Wednesday, knocking over the massive Christmas tree at South Street Seaport and leaving mangled umbrellas scattered across sidewalks and stuffed into garbage bins.

The city could see between a half an inch and three quarters of an inch of rain Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

In an unusually warm start to the month, the high temperature on Wednesday was 60 degrees, which is up from the average 48 degrees.

The the soggy weather drove some New Yorkers to wish they'd never left the house Wednesday morning.

"Another Manhattan Monsoon going on outside.Joy," Twitter user Welsh AlienNYC wrote Wednesday, "No hunters with me, but I do have a vintage fur. Perfect for the rain, will smell of wet dog."

Other locals tried to put an end to the complaining.

"dear frantic New Yorkers, you need to stop being pansies in the rain, I swear to god manhattan is a nightmare in this weather because of you," Twitter user AlexaBARikian wrote.
