EAST SIDE — Incumbent Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh handily won his third term in the State Assembly Tuesday.

Kavanagh, a Democrat, beat Republican challenger Dena Winokur with 84 percent of the vote in the Assembly District 74 race, the New York Times reported.

Kavanagh, a lifelong New York City resident, was first elected to the Assembly in 2006 after serving as Upper West Side Councilwoman Gale Brewer's chief of staff. He also served under former Mayors Ed Koch and David Dinkins.

His district includes parts of the Lower East Side and East Village, Union Square, Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, and parts of Kips Bay, Murray Hill and Midtown East.
