MIDTOWN— Since former Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s official portrait was unveiled at City Hall earlier this week, some have wondered whether it doesn’t look more like another politician: President Gerald Ford.
The two share similar dimpled smiles as well as recedeeding hairlines, causing some to confuse the image for the former mayor for the former commander-in-chief, according to the Daily News.
But at a campaign stop at Grand Central Terminal Friday with Republican attorney general candidate Dan Donovan, Giuliani said he doesn’t mind.
"That would be a great honor if it looked like President Ford. President Ford was the first president I worked for. I have great admiration for President Ford," he said.
Regardless, Giuliani said he's a big fan of the image, mostly because it depicts him wearing pinstripes — a nod to his favorite team.
"I was most concerned about the pinstripes, and he [artist Everett Raymond Kinstler] got the pinstripes right," he said.
Still, Giuliani was willing to poke a little fun at the not-so-likeness.
When asked how he felt about a new poll that names him as one of the public figures New Yorkers would most likely see leave the public stage, he jokingly blamed the tribute.
"Maybe they took a look at my portrait and got upset with it. Maybe it scared them," he said in jest.
He continued with the one-liners, adding, "I feel like they finally got a chance to hang me and they did."
