MANHATTAN — Despite failing to get his team to the World Series this year, New York Yankees skipper Joe Girardi is expected to get a raise, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.

The former Yankees catcher, who just completed his third year as manager of the Bronx Bombers, is closing in on a three-year deal that will pay him between $9 million and $10 million, according to the paper.

That's upwards of a 33 percent raise from the $7.5 million the Yankees paid Girardi for his first three years as manager. His contract will expire this Saturday, reported the Post.

Despite a shaky start to his tenure as manager — the Yankees failed to make the postseason in 2008, the first time since 1995 — in Girardi's sophomore season he lead the Bombers to their first World Series championship since 2000.

In 2010, the Yankees lost the American League Championship series to the Texas Rangers.

Girardi's deal with the Yankees is expected to be done by Thursday, reported the Post.
