MANHATTN — Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards will dress for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins despite his arrest in Chelsea for driving with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit.

"He will dress, he will play, but he will not start," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum told the Daily News.

Jets coach Rex Ryan will determine how much Edwards will play and when he'll enter the game.

The Jets could not suspend Edwards for the game because it would violate the league's collective bargaining agreement with the players union.

However, Edwards could eventually be fined or suspended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

Braylon Edwards has six receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown in two games for the Jets this season.

"Braylon’s actions clearly come under the purview of the league’s substance abuse policy," Tannenbaum told the Associated Press. "This is going to have to run its course through the legal system, and any discipline that occurs will be by the league under that program."

Edwards was pulled over by police for having windows with too much tint around 5 a.m. near the corner of 34th Street and 12th Avenue. He blew a .16 on a breathalyzer test, twice the blood alcohol legal limit of .08 in New York.

Edwards tried to persuade police to let him leave the scene, prosecutors said at his arraignment Tuesday afternoon.

"How 'bout I just leave the car and take a cab and go home?" Edwards, 27, pleaded with the arresting officers, according to prosecutors.

The Jets organization was not happy when it heard the news about Edwards' arrest.

"Obviously, we’re very disappointed with Braylon’s actions," Tannenbaum told the AP. "We take player conduct very seriously here."

Edwards has been a disappointment on the field for the Jets too since they acquired him from the Cleveland Browns in a trade last October.

Edwards has caught just six touchdowns in 17 games with the Jets, including three playoff games. He's also earned a reputation for dropping balls.

The 6-foot-3 receiver caught a touchdown pass for the Jets in their Week 2 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday. However, he also drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting a Patriots defensive back after the play, angering coach Ryan.

Edwards was at a charity poker game in Manhattan put on by teammate Jericho Cotchery on the night of his arrest. Teammates Vernon Gholston and D'Brickashaw Ferguson were also in the car with Edwards when he was pulled over by police. Neither player was charged with anything.

Edwards, who had his license suspended immediately, faces up to a year in jail if convicted of drunken driving.
