MANHATTAN — Jorge Posada’s 10th inning home run against the Tampa Bay Rays gave the Yankees an 8-7 win and put them back in first place in the American League East Tuesday.

"That’s a huge home run for us," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told the New York Daily News. "On a road trip where we’ve had some real disappointing losses, that’s a huge home run."

The win ended a season-high four-game losing streak for the Yankees, including a 1-0 loss Monday that let the Rays jump them in the division standings for a day.

Posada hit the game-winning blast off Rays reliever Dan Wheeler. The ball traveled 432 feet to the top of the restaurant perched over outfield at Tropicana Filed.

Yankees outfielder Greg Golson threw out Carl Crawford trying advance to third base from second on a fly out to end the game in the bottom of the 10th inning.

"It was an incredible throw," Rodriguez told the News. "He caught the ball flat-footed, so I honestly thought he had no chance. Who would have though Greg Golson could make a huge play in the middle of a great pennant race?"

Mariano Rivera closed out the game in the 10th to hear his 30th save of the season. The Yankees closer has notched at least 30 saves in eight straight seasons.

Robinson Cano knocked in three runs and Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer for the Yankees.

"It was a huge win for us, no question," Rodriguez told the News. "We’ve been in some dogfights the last four or five days and come up on the short end of it on the road."
