MANHATTAN — Lady Gaga grossed out audiences at the MTV’s Video Music Awards Sunday with a “meat dress” curtailed out of raw animal flesh.
The Franc Fernandez-designed dress appeared to be made of rib meat with shoulder cut straps. A flank-steak beret, raw cow purse and butcher string-tied tendon boots completed the gory getup, according to several reports.
Lady Gaga intended for the dress to be symbolic, not offensive, the New York Post reported.
“But if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones,” she told the Post.

“And I’m not a piece of meat.”
Los Angeles designer Fernandez said he spent two days stitching the dress out of a flank steak gathered from his family butcher, the New York Daily News reported.
While the “skirt steak” may have been a head-turner, it lacked prime quality, one Upper East Side butcher said.
“There are no expensive cuts here, no real steaks,” Ottomanelli Brothers Peter Cacioppo, 50, told the News.
The most striking thing about the dress was probably its smell, the butcher added.
“It ain’t refridgerated. It’s probably stinking bad. She’s in the lights: It’s cooking,” Yonkers resident Cacioppo told the paper.
Predictably, the star’s fleshy garb offended members of the PETA.
“What’s next,” PETA said in a statement to the Post, “the family cat made into a hat?”
