MANHATTAN — Following in the lead of Eliot Spitzer, gubernatorial candidate Andrew Cuomo declined to endorse a candidate in the five-way Democratic primary to replace him as attorney general.
"The leading candidates for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General have signed on to support my Plan for a New NY and I have decided to remain neutral in Tuesday’s primary," Cuomo said in an press release, touting his plan to "clean up Albany" while leaving the candidates in the lurch.
Cuomo had favored Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice in the early days of the race, according to the Daily News, but had reportedly swung more in the direction of former federal prosecutor Sean Coffey in recent days.
Some reports had Cuomo meeting with State Sen. Eric Schneiderman yesterday, but by Friday Cuomo had announced his decision not to endorse anyone.
Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and former state insurance superintendent Eric Dinallo are also in the race.
