MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A man charged with raping a Russian tourist in Riverside Park last week was indicted Tuesday on charges related to the alleged sexual assault.
Hugues-Denver Akassy's indictment will remain sealed until his Sept. 15 Supreme Court arraignment. It is unknown what the exact charges filed against him were or how many victims were named in the indictment.
Several other alleged victims testified at Akassy's grand jury proceedings, according to a source close to the case. The New York Times put the number of women who came forward at 10.
Akassy, 42, who claims to be a French-African television journalist, testified for three hours in his own defense at the proceedings and will fight any charges filed against him, his lawyer Howard Simmons said.
"These matters will proceed to a trial," Simmons said.
Prosecutors said Akassy met his Riverside victim at the Time Warner Center on July 27.
He has had run-ins with at least three other Upper West Side women prior to the alleged rape in July, according to criminal complaints filed with the Manhattan District Attorney's office.
