MANHATTAN — And the grease-stained, mustard-smeared, ketchup-marred envelope please....
New York underground food enthusiasts can finally stop salivating: the Street Vendor Project announced the finalists for the sixth annual Vendy Awards on Tuesday.
The Vendys will take place on Sept. 25 on Governors Island, where the five remaining contestants will vie for the title of Best New York City Street Food Vendor.
Called "the Oscars of food for the real New York" by Chef Mario Batali, this year's event honors vendors from Union Square, Inwood, Midtown and the Upper East Side, and cuisine from all over the world.
There's Venezuelan street food, Austrian schnitzel, and the Bistro Truck, which offers Moroccan-Mediterranean fare and what some call the best french fries in the city. (A complete list can be found here.)

Tickets to the event can be purchased here. Proceeds will go to the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, a nonprofit organization that provides a voice to New York City food and merchandise vendors.
