MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A Bronx mother charged with killing 11-year-old Chelsea girl Leandra Rosado while driving drunk on the Henry Hudson Parkway will plead guilty to manslaughter charges on Tuesday, a source close to the case told DNAinfo.
At a previous court appearance, Carmen Huertas, 32, was told she'd receive a sentence between the minimum — one to three years — and the maximum five to 15 years in prison in exchange for her guilty plea.
Huertas allegedly was recklessly speeding in a station wagon full of her daughter's friends who were headed uptown to a slumber party on Oct. 10, 2009.
Leandra was killed and the others were injured when Huertas veered off the Henry Hudson Parkway on the Upper West Side, and smashed into a tree.
Leandra's tragic death inspired the drafting of more strict drunk driving laws in New York State. Leandra's Law, which went into effect in November, makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with children in the car.
"She continues to mourn the loss of Leandra and she remains deeply saddened also by where she finds her life," said Huertas' attorney, Steven Adam Rubin.
Huertas is a mother of three children. One was Leandra's classmate.
