MANHATTAN — Straphangers using 30-day unlimited MetroCards may need to reassess their budgets for next year.

The monthly cards would cost an additional $15 per month under one of the fare hike plans being considered by the MTA, according to the New York Post.

The cash-strapped Authority's board will vote Wednesday on a set of potential revenue-increasing measures, sending the approved proposals along for debate at public hearings before they vote on them one final time in the fall, the MTA confirmed Tuesday.

Other plans up for consideration include a $1 charge for new MetroCards and toll increases for bridges and tunnels, according to the Post.

Both one-day and 14-day MetroCards would be axed completely under one of the plans, and the pay-per-ride bonus would be reduced from 15 to 7 percent under another, the Post said.

As for the seven and 30-day unlimited MetroCards, the board will consider competing proposals.

Under one plan, the costs will increase from $27 to $29 and from $89 to $104, the Post said. Under another plan, the costs will increase by slightly smaller margins, to $28 and $99 respectively, but the cards would no longer be unlimited, the paper explained. Instead, 7-day card users would be hit with a 22-ride limit, while 30-day card users would have to limit themselves to 90 rides, according to the Post.

The whopping $10 to $15 increase on 30-day MetroCards may have the most significant impact on commuters, as they account for approximately 1/3rd of all rides, according to a presentation at the most recent MTA Transit Committee Meeting.
