MANHATTAN — Cupcake aficionados like Katie Holmes and fashion designer Rebecca Taylor will be able to get their Billy’s Bakery fix at a third Manhattan location in just a few short months, according to Crain’s New York Business.
The dessert shop, which Holmes famously professed her love for in a 2005 issue of "In Style Magazine," is expected to open a NoLIta storefront in November, Crain's reported.
A 300-square-foot space at 268 Elizabeth Street between Prince and East Houston will host Billy’s Bakery over the course of a 10-year lease, according to Crain’s.
The cupcake purveyor will pay a bit over $200 per square foot, brokers told Crain’s.
The expansion comes as part of a cupcake boom across the city. Magnolia Bakery opened a Grand Central Terminal kiosk in April, and Cake & Shake is coming soon to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Crumbs Bake Shop now has a dozen Manhattan locations.
Billy’s sealed the deal because landlord Marolda Properties saw the cupcake business as "recession-proof," Prudential Douglas Elliman broker Faith Hope Consolo told Crain’s.
Billy’s opened its original Chelsea shop six years ago and recently expanded to Tribeca.
