MANHATTAN — Lady Gaga announced an album release on Facebook Monday afternoon, prompting over 8,000 fans to hit the 'like' button in just 30 minutes.

"The Remix," due to be released on August 3, features classic Lady Gaga hits reinterpreted by DJs and artists such as Passion Pit, Richard Vision and Frankmuzik.

The Facebook announcement followed an update by Lady Gaga about protests by a right wing church outside her concert in St. Louis. The Westboro Baptist church, infamous for picketing the funeral of murdered gay teenager Matthew Shepard, called Gaga a "false prophetess," and her fans "gender-confused, self loathing and tone deaf," Rolling Stone magazine reported.

"Tonight love and hate met in St. Louis. And love outnumbered the hate, in poetic thousands. Hate left. But love stayed. + Together, we sang," Gaga wrote on her Facebook page in response to the protests.

Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour nets $20,000 per show for a New York charity that works with homeless LGBT youth.

Before the show, Gaga posted notes to Facebook and Twitter addressing the conflict: "Do not interact with them, or try to fight. Do not respond to any of their provocation. Don't waste your words or feelings, no matter what you hear or see."
