MANHATTAN —  Hundreds of drunk drivers have been busted under Leandra's Law in its first six months.

As many as 248 drivers — including six in New York City — have been charged under the law, which made it a felony for drivers to get behind the wheel while drunk with a child under 16 in the car, the Daily News reported.

Arrests have also been made in 48 of the state's 62 counties, according to the State Division of Criminal Justice Services, with the highest number of arrests state-wide in Suffolk County, the paper said.

The law is named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado of Chelsea, who was killed when an SUV she was riding in along with seven other girls crashed on the Henry Hudson Parkway. The girls were on their way to a slumber party.

The driver, the mother of one of Leandra's friends, has since pleaded guilty to being intoxicated at the time.

Rosado's father, Lenny, said he finds the numbers reassuring.

"It's happening and we're going to at least catch these people before any more children are killed or any more lives are taken," he told the News.
