MANHATTAN — Why did Lady Gaga flip off Mets fans on Thursday? Because it's the New York thing to do, of course.

Manhattan's pop megastar defended the one-fingered salutes she delivered from both hands to booing fans during an afternoon game at Citi Field in a Twitter post Friday.

"A middle finger is more New York than a corporate ambush," she tweeted. "I bleed for my hometown, and I'd die for my fans."

"I guess I'm just a Bronx cheer kind of girl," she said in a subsequent tweet.

Wearing a leather bikini, a shirt that Eddie Vedder might have worn in 1991 and a leather coat, Gaga showed up during the fifth inning of the Mets tilt against the San Diego Padres and sat behind home plate. She apparently got upset, though, because the seats were too close to photographers covering the game.

"She was psyched to go the game," an unnamed source told the New York Post. "But she felt it was unfair that she was seated right by the paparazzi. Having them take pictures of her all game would've been annoying to all the fans. That was going to ruin it for everyone."

So she got up and left, resurfacing in a luxury box elsewhere in the ballpark that the Post said belonged to Jerry Seinfeld. Then the boobirds came out, to which the professed Yankee fan responded with her own flock of birds.
