GRAMERCY – Happy Birthday, Miss Monroe.
The iconic blonde beauty, who famously sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy at a Madison Square Garden bash, would have turned 84 this month.
And, to mark the anniversary, more than 30 wig wearing lookalikes pouted in Madison Square Park.
“I’ve sung Happy Birthday so many times in my life, it’s only fair that we celebrate mine for a change, don’t you think?” joked hostess Erika Smith, in a sultry Monroe voice.
The party included a brass band which played 1950s music while the impersonators handed out red lipstick and and T-shirts.
The celebration was courtesy of Erno Laszlo, the owner of a line of dermatology products who was a friend of the actress.
Among the fans drawn to the event were Tanya and Ed Marinaro, who met through a Monroe fan club. They share their home with a giant Monroe mannequin which stands in their living room.
“Those other blondes, they don’t have the charisma she possessed,” Ed said.
“It was a natural instinct for her.”
