MANHATTAN — Hisonari Takahashi's 12-inning scoreless streak came to a crashing halt as the San Diego Padres tagged the Mets starter for six runs on their way to an 18-6 drubbing of New York on Monday night.

The Japanese southpaw had held the Yankees and Phillies hitless over six innings in each of his first two major league starts, before the Padres got to him for six runs and eight hits in four innings Monday.

As bad as Takahashi pitched, the Mets bullpen fared much worse.

Raul Valdes came on in relief in the fifth inning, but failed to get an out. Valdes walked three and allowed four runs before being lifted by manager Jerry Manuel. Royota Igarashi was equally bad, giving up six runs in a third of an inning.

The game was so out of hand that Manuel was forced to used much-maligned lefty Oliver Perez to finish out the game. Perez gave up two runs in 2 1-3 innings, which was productive compared to his fellow relievers.

The poor pitching wasted a decent day at the plate by Mets hitters.

Angel Pagan and David Wright had two hits apiece and catcher Rod Barajas continued his power surge, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning.

Barajas leads all major league catchers with 11 home runs and has knocked in 30 RBIs on the year, second on the team to Wright's 34 RBIs.

Monday's loss was the 13 of 17 on the road for New York in May. The Mets have not won a series on the road all season.
