MANHATTAN — Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam and Andy Pettitte pitched a gem as the Yankees pounded the Cleveland Indians 11-2 in a Memorial Day matinee in the Bronx.

A-Rod's blast came in the seventh inning as the Bombers scored six runs off four Cleveland pitchers, the New York Times reported. The homer was the 590th of his career, and he finished the game with six runs batted in.

Outfielder Brett Gardner also had a big game, slapping three hits. The second hit drove in a run and broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning.

Pettitte improved to 7-1 on the season, and the Yankees took three out of four games from Cleveland in the series.

"He's been as good as I really think he can be," Manager Joe Girardi said of Pettitte, the Daily News reported. "I'm not surprised because it's Andy. I've seen so many great things from him and so many big-game performances from him, but he has been really good."

Yankee Captain Derek Jeter had two hits in the game, but was pulled in the seventh because of tightness in his left hamstring, according to the Times.

The team had a season-high 18 hits in the game, the New York Post reported.
