State Sen. Eric Schneiderman’s run for New York State Attorney general was endorsed Thursday by the New York County Democratic Committee.
He won 87 percent of votes cast by members of the largest Democratic organization in the state.
“New Yorkers need an Attorney General who will demand accountability from the powerful special interests and deliver justice for the working families of this state,” Schneiderman said in a public statement.
“As a lifelong progressive Democrat, I will be the people’s champion and fight every day to level the playing field for all New Yorkers.”
Schneiderman has so far won endorsements from labor unions 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East and 32BJ, as well as elected officials including U.S. Reps. Jerry Nadler, Charles Rangel and Jose Serrano, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is expected to announce his bid for governor this month. Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice Andrew, Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and Eric Dinallo, a former aide in the Spitzer administration, are among the contenders for this year’s Attorney General race.
