The health nut mayor, who made public enemies out of cigarettes, trans-fats, and salt, made a stunning revelation on Thursday — said Thursday his favorite vegetable was steak.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared his love for red meat at a press conference with Rachael Ray announcing a new initiative designed to promote healthy eating among New York City’s youth.

“I like most vegetables. I’m not big on a handful of them,” he told reporters, according to the Daily News, before adding: “But I love steak.”

The new program, supported by TV food personality Ray, will connect New York City public schools to community gardens, where children will learn about and develop healthy eating habits.

The mayor couldn't resist adding a few more food jokes at the press conference.

“This will be a piece of cake, or should I say, broccoli,” Bloomberg said, before introducing City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
