MUNICIPAL DISTRICT — As New York waited for the arraignment of confessed Times Square car bomber Faisal Shahzad on Wednesday, residents across Manhattan responded to the latest terror crisis with trademark resilience.
“I’m not scared,” said Debra Shart, a 45-year-old paralegal from Harlem. “I’m a native New Yorker, nothing can scare us.”
In Midtown, workers took note of the increased police presence.
“You see the cops all over the place since this happened. They’re really alert; they really keep an eye out for everything,” said Jon Flood, a 22-year-old sales assistant. “It helps everybody’s mindset, keeping them confident that we’re going to be safe.”

Despite their calm, city residents seemed resigned to the fact that their daily lives will always contain an element of fear.
“I believe that we’re a prime target, and it’s going to happen again,” said Sharon Schrage, a 62-year-old business owner who lives in Midtown East.
