MANHATTAN — Manhattan foodies took home a hefty batch of honors Monday night at the 2010 James Beard Foundation Awards, one of the food industry's most prestigious nights.
"Top Chef" star and New York chef Tom Colicchio was the big winner of the event, which was held in Lincoln Center, receiving the Outstanding Chef Award.
Colicchio's restaurant Craft, on East 19th Street, won the Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in 2002.
This year's recipient of the Best New Restaurant Award was also a hometown favorite. Marea, which serves Italian fare on Central Park South, took home the honor.
Manhattan restaurant mogul Keith McNally was also recognized, picking up the Outstanding Restaurateur Award. McNally founded some of the city's hottest eateries, including Balthazar, Pastis and the recently-opened Pulino's Bar and Pizzeria on the Lower East Side.
Classic New York haunts, Daniel and Jean George, won for Outstanding Restaurant and Outstanding Wine Service, respectively.
And Swiss chef Daniel Humm took home the award for Best Chef within the five boroughs. Humm is the Executive Chef at Danny Meyer's Eleven Madison Park.
For a mere $300, patrons of the restaurant can enjoy eleven courses plus wine pairings, selected by the chef.
