MIDTOWN WEST — City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and real estate leaders are heading to the White House Wednesday for a final plea to land federal funds for an additional subway station for the No. 7 train extension, a spokesperson for Quinn said.
The speaker and Real Estate Board of New York officials will meet with Vice President Joe Biden’s staff with the hope of landing hundreds of millions in stimulus funds to build a subway station at 10th Avenue and 41st Street for the 7 train extension.
A subway station at 34th Street and 11th Avenue is already in the works.
The first phase of the $2.1 billion extension was built by machines that drilled 2,900 feet under 11th Avenue from 26th Street to 34th Street. The second connection is headed north from 34th Street to 42nd Street.
The tunnel, financed by the city and the MTA, would bring subway service to the Hudson Yards project, an upscale housing development located between 30th and 33rd streets from Eleventh to Twelfth Avenues.
"We're working to rebuild an entire neighborhood, and an important key to that is having a strong transportation system," Quinn said.
