MANHATTAN — Welcome to New York City, Ike Davis.
Davis, the Mets top hitting prospect, singled in his first career at bat and knocked in a run with another hit as New York beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-1, at Citi Field on Monday.
"It's been a long day and it's been a dream come true," Davis, 23, told the New York Daily News. "Now I just have to work hard and make sure it lasts longer."
The rookie first baseman was given a loud standing ovation by many of the fans in attendence before his first big league at bat against Randy Wells in the third inning. Davis immediately rewarded the Citi Field faithful with a single to right field.
"He doesn't appear fazed," Mets manager Jerry Manuel told the Associated Press. "He already seems like just one of the guys, and that's impressive."

The Mets got a good outing out of starter Jonathan Niese, who allowed an unearned run in 5 2-3 innings as the Mets began a 10-game homestand after a 2-4 road trip.
Angel Pagan put the team ahead for good with a 2-run homer to spark a 5-run seventh inning. However, the night belonged to Davis.
The Mets top pick in the 2008 amateur draft singled up the middle in the seventh inning to drive home a run to give New York a 5-1 lead.
The rookie first baseman was called up from the minor leagues Monday after hitting three home runs and batting .364 in 10 games.
"He's a young man with a lot of talent," Mets shortstop Jose Reyes told reporters. "To bring him to New York? He can excite us by showing what he can do on the field."
