MANHATTAN — New York City beat out 28 other cities to be No. 1 on Askmen.com's list of "Top Cities to Live In" for men.

The men's lifestyle website judged the cities on weather, cost of living, dating opportunities, professional life, day and night life and even pollution.

The Big Apple edged out Melbourne, Australia, by a little more than three percentage points to earn top honors.  The city's food and night life gave it an edge, despite Melbourne's higher scores when it came to weather and cost of living.

The New York victory elicited mixed reviews on the website's discussion forums, where many readers disagreed with the results.

"New York is a has-been city," said a reader with the user name "Palmer." "I lived there many years and the magical New York is gone. The nightlife is overrated. Lets not even talk about the rent."

Another reader agreed, writing, "NYC is good if you like corruption. And how did it score so high on the cost of living?"

But even the most adamant New York haters had to agree that New York still boasted the best food in the world.

"The only redeeming quality New York has is its food," said "Palmer." "You simply cannot find the quality of food for the price like you can in New York."

Reader "Sammy1" went even further. "There are two main reason why New York City won: name the food and we have it and you can get anything you want to eat at 4 a.m."

Rounding out the top five were Tokyo, Madrid and London. And while every reader had their reasons for why their city should have been named No. 1, steadfast New Yorkers defended their beloved city as the best.

"The beautiful New York is indeed #1," said reader "Hot_Sauce." "New York makes all other cities look like shanty towns."
