MANHATTAN — The city's big feta cheese was missing in action from Sunday's Greek Independence Day on Fifth Avenue, causing consternation among some revelers, the New York Post reported.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, City Comptroller John Liu and Deputy Mayor Haeda Mihaltses were all on hand for the celebration, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg missed the action.

"I'm upset Bloomberg didn't show up, and we won't forget it," Maria Anezoulakas, 66, told the Post. "This is a large community to overlook, but when it's not an election year, it's easy to forget who got you in office."

A spokesman for the mayor defended his decision not to attend the parade, saying, "The mayor doesn't go to every parade."

Another representative told to the Post that the mayor hosted a "large breakfast" in honor of the event.
